The UW Police Department invites students, faculty, staff and the public to submit feedback as part of UWPD’s seventh reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
Submit comments about UWPD compliance with accreditation standards and delivery of public safety services via CALEA’s online comment portal.
CALEA evaluates how the UWPD complies with 185 standards, which are listed in bold on the CALEA website. CALEA requires agencies to comply with standards in four areas: policies and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
UWPD first earned CALEA accreditation in 2005 and is one of only 826 CALEA-accredited law enforcement agencies. UWPD is also accredited by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.
The intent of the accreditation process is to provide UWPD with information to support continuous improvement and foster UWPD’s pursuit of professional excellence.
CALEA does not investigate crimes, take police reports or respond to calls for service. The public comment portal should not be used to file requests for UWPD service, investigation or public records requests. To report a crime or share a concern, contact the UWPD directly or file an online report.
CALEA and the UWPD will not respond to submissions on the comment portal other than acknowledging receipt of the comment submission.
For more information about the accreditation process, please contact the UWPD Accreditation Manager at uwpdaccred@uw.edu or 206-543-8469.
