Training

Training is responsible for all state-mandated training for each commissioned officer in addition to UW mandated training for all UWPD employees. Training is focused on a variety of topics from critical incident management to professionalism and customer service. All commissioned officers must meet the state-mandated in-service 24 hours of training in order for the UWPD to maintain its accreditations with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and Washington Association of Sheriffs & Police Chiefs.

Community Engagement

UWPD’s goal is to increase community awareness about the risk of campus crime by utilizing crime prevention services, tips, and social media posts.  Our officers work with students to generate a sense of personal responsibility in each individual, to increase personal awareness, and to prevent or reduce criminal opportunities. The Citizen’s Academy, Rape Aggression Defense training and active shooter training are just some of the trainings UWPD Community Engagement has provided in the past.
