Notification of Criminal Incident – Seattle Campus

Seattle Police are investigating an assault that occurred on May 19, 2022, at approximately 4 p.m. at Montlake Blvd. NE and NE Pacific St. The victim and suspect engaged in an argument on a bus coming from Bellevue, which escalated to the point of the bus driver having to tell them to quiet down. As they exited the bus at Montlake Blvd., the suspect approached the victim on the sidewalk near the bus stop, then pepper sprayed and stabbed the victim in the left hand with a knife. The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction on foot.

The victim was treated at UW Medical Center – Montlake and was released shortly after treatment.

The suspect in this incident is described as a short man wearing a construction vest.

Robbery west of campus

Seattle police are investigating a robbery that occurred on May 18, 2022, at approximately 1 a.m. in the 4500 block of University Way NE. While a man was removing graffiti from buildings in the area, he was punched several times and his truck was stolen by an unknown suspect. The suspect and the vehicle were located a short time later in an alleyway in the 4700 block of 12th Ave. NE, however the suspect ran from the vehicle and was unable to be located by responding officers.

The victim was treated at the scene for his injuries by Seattle Fire Department personnel and released. He was later transported to the location where his vehicle was found.

The suspect in the crime is described as a man wearing a gray sweater and carrying a black backpack.

Attempted Arson

On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at about 7 p.m., UWPD officers responded to a report that a wall poster was damaged by fire near an elevator on the fifth floor of Alder Hall. UWPD officers responded again on April 7, 2022, at approximately 2 a.m. along with the Seattle Fire Department to the same location for a fire alarm and found a poster on fire. The fire also caused minor damage to the wall where the poster was attached.

There is no suspect information at this time in either incident.

On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 2:16 a.m., Seattle police were called to the report of a robbery that occurred in the 4300 block of Roosevelt Avenue NE. Two masked suspects entered a business and stole cash and two cell phones from an employee. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun at the time of the crime. After committing the robbery, the suspects left the business in an unknown direction. The employee was not injured during the incident.

The first suspect was described as a man with a heavy build, wearing a mask, dark hoodie and black sweatpants. He was armed with a handgun.

The second suspect was described as a man with a thin build, wearing a mask and dark hoodie.

On Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at 4:19 p.m., Seattle police were called to the report of a robbery that occurred in the 1100 block of NE 50th Street. A man walked into a store, picked up a ukulele and took it to the front counter for checkout. When the store employee opened the cash register, the man pulled out a handgun and demanded the employee give him the money from the cash register. The employee handed over $100 to the suspect, who then left the store with the money and the ukulele. He was last seen walking northbound in the alley behind the store. Police were unable to locate the suspect. The employee was not injured during the incident.

The suspect was described as a man between 30 to 40 years old, about 6 feet tall, medium-to-heavy build, wearing a green hoodie, black beanie with white letters or stripes and tan work pants. The suspect was holding the black handgun with his left hand. January 25, 2022 Carjacking, University District

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at 5:45 p.m. Seattle police responded to the area of the 4700 block of University Way NE to a report of a carjacking. A man returned to his car after picking up food. After getting into his car, two men opened the door and pulled him from the vehicle. One of the men pointed a knife at the victim and the other man tased the victim on the right leg. The first suspect left the area walking northbound on University Way NE. The second suspect got into the vehicle and left the area southbound on University Way NE. The victim could not recall which suspect tased him but said the first suspect pointed the knife at him. The victim declined medical attention.

Suspect #1 was described as male with a heavy build and dark hair, wearing a brown hoodie and dark pants. He was armed with a knife.

Suspect #2 was described as male with a slim build and dark hair, wearing dark clothing.

The stolen vehicle was a silver 2003 Toyota Corolla, WA license plate: BZR6300.

On Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, around 5:45 p.m. Seattle police responded to the area of the 4500 block of 18th Avenue NE to a report of an assault. The victim was walking with another person when they were approached by three men and one woman. The woman grabbed the victim around the neck and punched her in the face with a closed fist. One of the men then tased the victim on the left leg, causing the victim to fall to the ground. As other people came into the area where the assault was occurring, all three suspects got into a vehicle and left the area northbound through an alley. Seattle Fire Department personnel responded to the location of the incident and treated the victim for the injuries sustained in the assault.

Witnesses at the scene could not provide descriptions of the suspects, however Seattle PD reported they fled in a Mercedes sedan. An area check was done for the suspects and the suspect vehicle but they were not found.

On Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022, at about 12:20 a.m., Seattle police responded to the area of the 4300 block of Brooklyn Ave. NE to reports of shots being fired. An individual fired a handgun in the air in a westerly direction from that location. After firing the shots, the person got into a blue sedan-style car, driven by another individual, and left the location south on University Way NE. There were no reported injuries as a result of the shots being fired.

Burglary north of campus

On Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, at about 1:18 a.m., Seattle police responded to reports of a burglary at a residence in the 5000 block of 17th Ave NE. A person who lives at the home found an unknown man in an upstairs room rummaging through the resident’s belongings and putting items in a duffel bag. When the victim confronted the man, the man ran downstairs and out the front door. The victim and other witnesses chased the man from the home and saw him being joined by a second man. As both suspects ran from the home, the victim saw one suspect remove a handgun from his waistband. Both suspects got inside a car driven by a third man and left the area in an unknown direction. The vehicle was described as a small-sized blue sedan missing the rear window and with duct tape on the rear bumper.

Neither the victim or any witnesses were injured during this incident. The descriptions of the suspects are as follows:

Suspect #1 was described as a man between 25 and 27 years old, about 6 feet tall, wearing a blue jacket and black pants. Suspect #2 was described as a man between 25 and 27 years old, about 6 feet tall, wearing an “LA” baseball cap, black hoodie and black pants.
