Notification of Criminal Incident – Seattle Campus

This message is being communicated to all faculty, staff and Seattle campus students with the approval of the UW Police Department. This message is sent in the interest of public safety and in compliance with federal law requiring timely warning notification of crimes committed on or near campus. This is not a UW Alert message. Robbery Incident #1:
On Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at 6:26 p.m., Seattle Police responded to a robbery at a retail business in the 5100 block of 25th Ave. NE. Two men walked into the business, and one displayed a handgun and took an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was injured. Seattle Police were not able to locate the suspects.

One suspect was described as a man in his 20s, 5-foot-10, medium build, wearing a black jacket with a hood, light blue jeans, gold- and white-colored athletic shoes, and brandishing a white and silver semi-automatic pistol. The second suspect was a man in his 20s, 5-foot-10, thin build, wearing a black ski mask, light green jacket and black pants (possibly sweat pants).

Robbery Incident #2:
Also on Friday, at 7:59 p.m., Seattle Police responded to a robbery at a retail business in the 4300 block of Roosevelt Way NE. Three men walked into the business, and one displayed a handgun and took an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects left on foot in an unknown direction. The employee and a witness were not injured. Seattle Police were not able to locate the suspects.

The only description of the three suspects was that they were all 6 feet tall, wearing black clothing and black neck-gaiter face coverings. The handgun was described as a black and silver semi-automatic pistol.

Crime prevention tips for similar incidents:

  • Be aware of your surrounding and what is going on around you.
  • Cooperate with the robber to the extent possible and try to keep yourself safe.
  • Remove yourself from potentially dangerous situations as soon as possible.

  • Clothing descriptors: Look for layers under the visible layer, other distinctive identifiers, etc.
  • Physical characteristics: Age, height, weight, eye and hair color, mannerisms, scars or tattoos.
  • Direction of travel.
