University of Washington Police Department Awarded Third Accreditation

It is with great pride that UWPD announces we became the only police department in Washington to be accredited by three different agencies this month.  “This award is the culmination of 18 months of dedicated effort from all personnel within our department. I am continually awed by their drive toward ongoing improvement, and dedication to our community,” said Chief John Vinson.

The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) awards accreditation to college and university sworn law enforcement agencies, as well as non-sworn security departments.  The group has accredited 46 campus public safety agencies and an additional 30 agencies are seeking accreditation.

The standards for achieving accreditation from IACLEA ensure the police agency has a system of professional practices in the areas of administration, crime prevention, investigations, property and evidence control and many others. This latest achievement goes along with two previous accreditation awards earned by the department.

In July 2017, the department won its fifth accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).  And, in November 2017, UWPD was awarded state level accreditation by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC).
