Major Steve Rittereiser heads the Business Continuity and Compliance Division and reports directly to the Chief of Police. The division includes Public Information, Clery Compliance, Business Continuity, Labor Relations, Records, Accreditation and Policy Management, Legislative Affairs and Grants and Contracts.
Public Information Officer
Major Rittereiser serves as the department’s Public Information Officer. He is responsible for enabling communication between UWPD, news media outlets and the campus community.
Clery Compliance
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) is a federal law that requires colleges and universities to disclose certain timely and annual information about campus crime and security policies. The Division appoints a Clery Coordinator.
Business Continuity and Risk Mitigation
Responsible for the Department’s planning processes to ensure operations and core business functions are not severely impacted by a disaster or an unplanned incident. The Division appoints a Business Continuity Coordinator.
Labor Relations
Responsible to liaison and collaborate with the UW Labor Relations office during labor negotiations and in other labor matters with a goal of thoughtful outcomes and responsible stewardship of public resources.
Records
Records includes both the department’s police records and responsibilities under the Washington Public Records Act. The Department employs a Records Coordinator and a Public Records Coordinator.
Accreditation
The UWPD maintains three law enforcement accreditations. Accreditation is the focal point of the policy management program. The Department employs an Accreditation Manager.
Legislative Affairs
Responsible for analysis of pending federal and state legislation and responds to institutional requests for fiscal notes and other forms of information.
Grants and Contracts
Responsible for development through grant and foundation funding opportunities. The Division is responsible for police and security contracts and MOUs.
